MICKEY THOMAS is adamant Wrexham will be celebrating a promotion hat-trick this season.

Asked whether the Reds could repeat what he achieved as a Wrexham player back in 1978 and make it into the Championship, Thomas said: “Without doubt, they’re going up!

“Phil Parkinson has got such a good squad at his disposal and I’m confident they’ll go up for a third season in a row.”

Wrexham lifted the National League title in 2023 to end their 15 years of hurt in non-league football.

Parkinson then led Wrexham to a record-breaking second successive promotion as the Reds finished runners-up to Stockport County in League Two last season.

A buoyant Thomas, who has been a regular at The Racecourse this season, met the club’s new investors at the Exeter City home game nine days ago.

Members of the Allyn family, who have taken a minority shareholding in a club owned by Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, were at The Racecourse to watch the Reds go second in League One with a 3-0 win over The Grecians.

“I met Eric Allyn and his daughter and they were very accommodating,” said Thomas, who played 349 times in two spells with Wrexham.

“They have a real passion for the club, Eric was wearing a Wrexham tracksuit top.

“They’ve done their homework and they really have the club at heart.

“I gave them a copy of my book which they were delighted about.”

Thomas and the Allyns were equally delighted with Wrexham’s display on what was another ‘all-our-yesterdays’ afternoon for the former Wales and Manchester United star.

“David Giles, who took my place in the Wrexham team, was there with his grandchildren,” added Thomas.

“He was a good player but not as good as me!

“He played for all the Welsh clubs - Wrexham, Cardiff, Swansea and Newport. Not many have done that!”

And Thomas also got rave reviews from the father of Wrexham’s record signing, Ollie Rathbone.

“Mick - Ollie’s dad - spoke to me and said Ollie’s going to be the next Mickey Thomas at Wrexham although he won’t be as good!”
