ACADEMY clubs in North Wales should take a bow after fighting off Storm Bert to ensure not one of their 11 games was called off.
And it was raining goals with Connah’s Quay Nomads firing home 20 in their six matches.
Nomads triumphed 2-1 at Newtown to maintain a one-point lead at the top of the FAW North Development League.
Calum Simpson and Joe Bennett got the goals which were both set up by captain Bradley Barnes, who also scored an own goal.
Airbus beat Bala Town 2-0 to stay second while Harry Cartwright scored Flint Town United’s consolation goal in a 4-1 defeat at Aberystwyth Town.
In the U16s Academy League, Stanley Edwards, Kacper Bury, Harri Edwards and Evan Roberts were the Airbus scorers in a 4-1 win over Bala.
Nomads were also winners at Newtown where Alfie Bennett (2), Tomasso D’Avossa and Harvey Hendry were all on target.
The New Saints - 3-1 winners over Caernarfon Town - top the table and that’s the case in the U15s League after a 4-2 victory over the Canaries put them a point clear of Newtown, who were held to a 2-2 draw by Nomads.
Kai Davies’ double earned Nomads a point while Noah Al-Dulaymi (2), Joseph Farrell, Harry Williams, Jack Hardstaff and Piotr Wlodarcyzyk earned Airbus a 6-2 win at Bala in the U14s League.
Nomads beat Newtown 5-2 thanks to Adam Price (2), Jarod Harris, Owen Fellowes and Zac Edwards while runaway leaders TNS triumphed 5-0 at Caernarfon.
In the U13s League, Nomads beat Newtown 6-4 in a 10-goal thriller.
Edward Hughes came off the bench to score twice while TNS missed the chance to take top spot from Flint as they were beaten 3-1 at Caernarfon.
The Saints are top dogs in the U12s League after a thrilling 6-5 win at Caernarfon.
Airbus beat Bala 3-0 and Logan Moore’s double was not enough for Nomads, who went down 3-2 at home to Newtown,
Three North East Wales FA Cup ties took place and the two teams from Borras Park Albion bowed out in the U13s competition.
Gresford Athletic knocked out Albion Yellows while Jake McGlynn hit Cefn Mawr Rangers’ winner in a 3-2 victory over Albion Blues.
Evan Evans and Harry Flitcroft also scored with Caleb Daniels bagging both for the Blues.
The U15s Cup tie at AFC Flint was just as exciting as the home side edged out Coedpoeth United Celts 4-3.
Robert Ballantyne, Austin Wyatt, Rhys Jones and Tobi Osunjimi won it for Flint although Luke Plant (2) and Owen Burke made a real game of it.
There was one game in the North East Wales U15 League and it ended 1-1 between Saltney Town and AFC Flint.
Leo Elliott put visitors Flint ahead but substitute Leon Hayes-Williams earned Saltney a point.
In the U19s League, Harvey Messham’s last minute winner sealed a 2-1 success for Rhos Aelwyd at home to Buckley Town. Jayden Sheil also netted for Rhos after Sam Jones had put Buckley ahead.
In the U17s League, Sam Bryan fired home four goals in Gresford Athletic’s 6-0 mauling of Mold Alex. Alex Cooper bagged Gresford’s other two goals.
