MATTY JAMES says the winning mentality in the Wrexham squad shone through as the players dug deep to secure a hard-fought victory against Lincoln City.

Phil Parkinson's side registered a 1-0 success in Tuesday's League One clash at The Racecourse with the only goal coming in the 67th minute when James McClean's low shot was turned into his own net by Imps defender Tendayi Darikwa.

That made it eight home league win in nine attempts - the other ended in a draw - to leave Wrexham second in the table.

James can see why back-to-back promotion winners Wrexham boast such an impressive record at their north Wales stadium and the midfielder is eager to play his part in keeping the brilliant run going.

"I've only been here a short time and I can see the togetherness and the willingness to win," said the 33-year-old, who last month penned a short-term deal until January.

"When you have such a winning mentality, when you have such a run that this club's been on, I think it's ingrained in the walls.

"There's almost like, not an expectation, but a need to do my part and then you know that your mate is going to do his part and you know the staff are going to do their part.

"Every single person going into the game is prepared, ready and focused on the performance, and we just get on with it."

WIN A SIGNED WREXHAM SHIRT

James, who left Bristol City at the end of last season and was without a club when he signed for Wrexham, hailed the players for grinding out the win.

"In any match you're playing, whether it be at the top or the lowest level, there's going to be instances in the game where momentum swings happen and you're going to have to dig deep," he added.

"You're going to have to defend, you're going to have to battle and I think we did that.

"We passed the ball around really well at times. We had moments in the game where we probably should have done a little bit better but the endeavour and the willingness to keep the ball out of the net at the end is excellent and that's something that I've noticed since I've come in."
