PHOEBE DAVIES says Wrexham have a lot of work to do after their lengthy winning run was halted by a loss at The New Saints.

The Adran Premier high-flyers prevailed 1-0 at Park Hall, ending the Reds’ run of five triumphs in a row in all competitions.

Davies, who played the full 90 minutes for the first time this season, told the club’s YouTube channel: “That was a tough 90 minutes.

“TNS, I think, outfought us today, unfortunately, and they got their reward.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do. We know what we need to do and we’ve got a week to fix it before Cardiff City next week.”

In a blow to the Reds, Lexi Jones scored the only goal of the match in stoppage time at the end of the first half.

Manager Steve Dale admitted: “Didn’t start the game well enough to be fair.

“You know, we allowed TNS to sort of dominate and get on top, and in a derby game it’s important that you come out fighting and you come out quick, and we didn’t do that.

“You know, it was a poor goal to give away right in stoppage time.

“I thought we had a good spell 20 minutes after half-time and if that was ever going to be the time to get back in the game, then that was going to be it.

“We had a couple of half-chances, had one real good chance, you know, it’s hit Rosie (Hughes) on the line and stayed out, and obviously their keeper’s made a good save towards the end.

“But, overall, didn’t do enough to win the game and we’ve got to move on quickly now.”

Dale added: “I think we’ve had a lot of pride in the way we’ve started games over the last sort of run in form.

“You know, we’ve got out of the traps quickly. We’ve started well.

“We haven’t done that today and unfortunately that’s been the result at the end of it.

“We haven’t clicked into gear quick enough and we’ve found ourselves on the end of a disappointing defeat.”

Things don’t get any easier for Wrexham, who are now preparing for Sunday’s trip to league leaders Cardiff City.

“We’ve got a big week coming up,” admitted Dale.

“Obviously, it’s really important that we address it quickly, put the wrongs right.

“We’ve had setbacks numerous times this season so I don’t doubt that we’ll show the character to get back to sort of winning ways.”

In Sunday’s late kick-off, Barry Town United and Swansea City played out a 2-2 draw.

Connah’s Quay Nomads boss Jordan Parry has been reflecting on a thrilling 3-2 derby win over Flint Town United that saw his side go top of Adran North.

Aimee Redfern’s stoppage time strike made sure of Nomads’ triumph and Parry told the club’s X site: “They’re a good side and it is derby day, but there’s some good people at that club and I’m hoping that they go and do well - until they’re playing us, obviously!

“But we were fantastic today in large periods of the game, but I think it should have been put to bed first half.

“Our end product today, it wasn’t good enough and it’s something the players know.

“Didn’t need to go hell for leather on them. They know themselves, so to get a last minute winner, this is what this team’s about.

“It’s fantastic, the attitude, application, the commitment. So, I’m just not surprised.

“It’s good habits that they’ve got themselves into of a never give in attitude.”
