OLLIE RATHBONE is hoping to get a run in the Wrexham side so he can really show what he can do.
The midfielder arrived at The Racecourse from Rotherham United in the summer for a club record fee but has found opportunities limited in the Reds' engine room.
With Andy Cannon suspended, Rathbone came into the team for Saturday's League One clash with Exeter City at The Racecourse.
It was just his fourth league start of the season and the 28-year-old produced a man of the match performance as Wrexham won 3-0 to move up to second in the table.
Phil Parkinson is not short of options for tonight's home game against Lincoln City but Rathbone hopes to keep his place and feels he will benefit from having a run of games.
"I respect the manager's decision. I think the lads that have been playing have done really well," said Rathbone, who has made seven substitute appearances.
"We've been getting results so I've not had any kind of issues with that, but it's obviously difficult.
"I've been coming on and doing my best, and trying to make as much impact as possible, but it is kind of difficult to really make a proper impact when you have 20 or 30 minutes.
"If you get a run in the side then you can build up some form and you get some confidence going. Hopefully I get that but it is whatever is best for the team.
"I was delighted to get the start against Exeter but I'm a team player. I only want the team to do well."
Rathbone scored his first goal for Wrexham when he headed home James McClean's corner to kill the game off in the second half as the Reds returned to winning ways after losing 1-0 at Stockport County the previous weekend.
"It's been something that's been weighing heavy on my shoulders a little bit so I'm delighted to kind of get that off my back and hopefully there's more to come," said Rathbone.
"It's really important that we bounced back from last week with a positive performance. To get the result is the cherry on top of the cake."
Parkinson described Rathbone as like "having a player and a half on the pitch" with the amount of distance that he covered against the Grecians.
"That's the bare minimum requirement when you play for this team and this manager," Rathbone added. "All the players wouldn't accept anything less, so it's quite an easy thing to do.
"I'm loving it here, really enjoying it. I think it's a fantastic group of lads. I've settled in a lot more over last couple of months and I am really enjoying working with the squad, working with the staff and it's an exciting place to be.
"We'll try and get three points again when we play Lincoln."
