WREXHAM’S winning run was ended by a narrow loss away to Adran Premier high-flyers The New Saints.
Lexi Jones’ strike in first half stoppage time made sure of the second-placed Saints’ 1-0 triumph, which keeps them within two points of leaders Cardiff City, who beat Cardiff Met 4-1.
For the Reds, who had won five matches on the bounce in all competitions, this was their first loss since mid-October.
Wrexham had the first glimpse of goal in the sixth minute as Rosie Hughes headed wide from Lili Jones’ centre.
Saints had an opportunity in the 25th minute when Chantelle Teare hit her effort just wide of the target.
At the other end, Hughes forced a save from home keeper Rebecca Elliott and a break in play came with an injury to Abbie Iddenden, who had to be replaced by Ava Suckley.
In a blow to the Reds, Saints’ match-winner Jones struck in stoppage time to give the hosts the lead.
Both sides had opportunities soon after the break. Jones and Teare were off-target with efforts for the hosts, while Wrexham’s Carra Jones had a shot saved by Elliott and Brooke Cairns’ shot was blocked.
Lizzie Craven was called into action with an excellent save to deny Grace Dunkerley.
At the other end, Cairns and Carra Jones tried their luck with long-range efforts that went wide. Keeper Craven denied Jones her second with a further save in the closing stages.
Aimee Redfern’s stoppage-time strike made sure Connah’s Quay Nomads edged a derby thriller 3-2 at home to Flint Town United to move to the top of Adran North.
Nomads, looking to maintain their perfect start to the league campaign, had a couple of glimpses of goal during the opening 20 minutes.
Ella Jones low drive ended up just wide of the upright, while Alisha Whitehead-Hughes’ powerful effort clattered against the post.
After half-an-hour, Anna Marsh’s curling attempt forced a save from Flint keeper Rebecca Bott.
A hectic end to the first half began when Ruby Hastings handed Flint a 38th minute lead.
Quay’s response was excellent, though, and goals from Polly Wild-McGregor and Ella Jones made sure they were ahead at the break.
However, Flint weren’t done just yet and Rosie Hughes levelled things up once more on the hour.
Then, up popped Redfern with her dramatic 95th minute winner.
An injury to the referee meant Llandudno’s match at Y Felinheli had to be abandoned at half-time.
In the North East Wales League, Northop Hall lost 7-0 at Henllan.
