CALUM MCINTYRE was certainly a satisfied figure as his Chester side deservedly defeated National League North leaders Chorley at the Deva Stadium.

The Blues bagged their eighth win of the campaign courtesy of a 2-1 verdict, which moved them to within a point of the play-off positions.

Boss McIntyre told Chester FC TV: “Really good performance, first and foremost.

“Really good in all aspects, very solid. Disappointed to concede a goal, because I think we were well worthy of two clean sheets, to be honest.

“Good with the ball, posed a threat and that’s what we want to look like, and that is that shape and that system, and that executed pretty well.”

Chester had their noses in front midway through the first half when Tom Peers was on hand to finish off a counter-attack.

Harrison Burke headed in his second goal in two matches to double the advantage, before Tom Carr pulled one back for Chorley late on.

Ex-Wrexham striker Andy Preece (pictured left), the Chorley boss, told Chorley FC TV: “I thought Chester were the better team, no doubt about that.

“They deserved to win the game. It’s always a difficult place to come to anyway.

“Obviously, one of the bigger teams in the league and you need a lot to go right for you, and at this minute in time, we’re probably at our barest in terms of bodies.”

“Really pleased with the performance,” added McIntyre, whose focus now switches to Tuesday’s home clash with Oxford City.

“Really pleased with what it looked like. Enjoyed watching us and very, very pleased with the three points against a side at the top of the league.”

Scunthorpe United returned to the top of the table with their 2-0 triumph at Leamington.
