HARRY OWEN grabbed a late goal to make sure Flint Town United prevailed against Briton Ferry Llansawel in their crucial basement battle.

The Silkmen had slipped into the relegation zone on the back of Briton Ferry’s stunning 3-1 success over The New Saints, but a 2-1 triumph at the Essity Stadium means that Flint managed to haul themselves out of the bottom-two.

After the match, assistant boss Steve Evans told S4C’s Sgorio: “Really pleased, you know, but that’s been coming.

“The performances this year have been there, but it’s been moments. We’ve been switched off at certain moments, but today we put a full 90 minutes in.”

Home boss Lee Fowler was sent off early in the second period after he intercepted the ball before it went out of play, while his side claimed the lead in the 55th minute.

Ben Hughes’ centre found Mike Burke and he slotted home. Within two minutes and Briton Ferry Llansawel levelled things up with Keiran Williams’ header, but Flint made sure of victory with eight minutes remaining.

Jake Phillips’ free kick into the box was chested down by Owen, who then picked his spot for the Silkmen’s second goal.

Aberystwyth Town remain at the foot of the standings on the back of their 3-0 defeat at Cardiff Met.

Goals from Lewis Rees, Thomas Vincent and Matthew Chubb sealed the deal.

Defending champions The New Saints recovered from a 2-0 deficit to beat leaders Penybont 3-2 in a Park Hall thriller.

James Crole’s double had Rhys Griffiths’ visitors in control by the interval.

Josh Pask pulled one back early in the second half, before Danny Davies levelled things up.

Then, with a minute remaining, Danny Redmond grabbed a dramatic winner for Craig Harrison’s side, who moved to within a point of Penybont.

Elsewhere, it finished up 0-0 in the meeting between Haverfordwest County and Bala Town.

Connah’s Quay Nomads’ game at Newtown on Friday night was one of two top flight matches called off with Caernarfon Town versus Barry Town United also falling victim to the weather.

The Quay’s 3G pitch proved perfect for Aston Park Rangers in the only league game to take place outside the top two divisions.

Rangers hammered Cei Connah 11-1 in the North East Wales Championship thanks to doubles from Will Weaver and Ryan Edge.

Karl Lloyd, Adam Randles, Anthony Weaver, Douglas McDonagh, Jonny Crossley, James Redfern and Lewis Jones also netted with Thomas Johnson replying.

All league games were called off but one Ardal North Cup tie did go ahead with double-chasers Kerry thrashed Llansantffraid 7-0.
