IT’S seven-up for in-form league leaders Airbus.

The Wingmakers made it eight consecutive triumphs in all competitions with a 2-0 success over Gresford Athletic, which stretched their advantage at the head of the rankings to seven points.

Sam Baker bagged both of the goals for Airbus, who recorded their 14th win in 15 league matches this season.

Boss Mark Allen told the club’s X site: “Obviously, pleased with the result. I think that (we) potentially could have scored more. Sam had a really good chance in the second half to complete his hat-trick, unfortunately it went wide and a couple in the first half as well.

“So, it was a pleasing performance for us, a professional performance to be fair.”

Gresford, who play their home matches at Airbus, were looking to make their mark, but they fell behind in the 25th minute.

Joe Palmer set up Baker to get the ball beyond Athletic keeper Lewis Dutton.

A brilliant double-save from Keighan Jones denied Dave Forbes a leveller late in the first half, while Baker grabbed his second goal on the hour.

Forbes was in the thick of the action late on. After taking the ball around Jones, he was denied by Sam Rickett’s clearance off the line.

Then, in the last minute, Forbes was sent off after he received a second yellow card for dissent.

Reflecting on his two-goal hero, Allen said: “Sam’s been with us all season and last season, to be fair.

“I suppose his objective this season was to be more consistent in the game. So, he’s come in when he’s had his chance and taken his chance really well.

“Scored two today, which obviously he’s pleased with and so are we, and for him, as he knows, it’s important to keep performing, keep scoring and get more starting opportunities.”

Holywell Town were able to recover from a two-goal deficit to secure a 2-2 draw from their trip to Bangor 1876.

It was a quick one-two as the hosts gained control of the contest inside the opening 25 minutes.

Tom Bibby, Danny Andrews and Ryan Edwards had early opportunities for the Wellmen, but after a quarter-of-an-hour, Corrig McGonigle fired Bangor into the lead.

It was McGonigle and Bangor at the double midway through the first half as he struck from a tight angle.

Refusing to allow their heads to drop, Holywell sought a route back into the contest and they pulled a goal back with eight minutes of the first half remaining.

Morgan Murray provided the assist as Jamie Breese made it 2-1.

Breese then blew in with the visitors’ leveller midway through the second half.

There were glimpses of goal at both ends as the match continued, but no further goals arrived.

All of the other Cymru North matches were postponed.
