WREXHAM’S U18 side’s reward for an FA Youth Cup derby win against Tranmere Rovers is a trip to either Bolton Wanderers or Lincoln City in the third round.

The young Reds have reached this stage of the competition for the first time since 2005 after they managed to get the better of their Tranmere counterparts at Prenton Park.

Nick Chadwick’s team made progress after coming from behind to beat Rovers 3-1.

The hosts took the lead after 19 minutes but Keane Hazeldine levelled for the Reds just before the break.

Wrexham, who beat Morecambe in the first round of the competition, took control of the tie in the second half with Hari Roberts putting the visitors ahead for the first time just before the hour mark.

Roberts quickly made it 3-1 when he netted his second goal of the evening and Wrexham’s third, booking their place in the next round of the competition.

Wrexham were back in Football League Youth Alliance (North Division) action at the weekend.

Chadwick’s side were held to a 3-3 draw away to Carlisle United having led 2-1 at half-time.

That leaves Wrexham third in the table with an impressive seven wins, three draws and just two defeats from their 12 games, and just one point off top spot.

Next up for Wrexham is a home match against Rochdale on Saturday November 30.

A youthful Chester side were knocked out of the Cheshire Senior Cup by Sandbach United.

Made up mostly of U19s player, the Blues went 2-0 up through Ryan Atkinson and Oskar Rosenblatt.

But Sandbach hit back to win 3-2 thanks to goals from Jake Pollard, Kieran Alley and Joseph Bevan.
