AMBER LIGHTFOOT is certainly having a ball out on the pitch!
Lightfoot is once more a key figure in Wrexham’s Adran Premier set-up this season and she played her part as the Reds roared into the quarter-finals of the Welsh Cup with Sunday’s 10-0 win over Adran North Y Felinheli.
Lightfoot, who scored one and supplied an assist in that cup triumph, told the club’s YouTube channel: “I’m really enjoying it, like I have every season.
“I think it helps that I’ve got such a talented group of girls around me as well, you know, to find my feet, get it out wide.
“But I’m just hoping to continue playing with freedom and, hopefully, more goals, assists and wins will come along with it.”
It’s now five triumphs on the bounce in all competitions for Steve Dale’s side and the Reds have bagged a bumper 31 goals during their winning run.
Ava Suckley grabbed a hat-trick to help Wrexham to their latest success, including the 17th minute opener after Rosie Hughes’ initial effort was saved by Catrin Beech.
Hughes grabbed two goals, which included a cheeky backheel finish from Lili Jones’ corner, while other strikes on the day were provided by Katie Sharp’s brace, Brooke Cairns and Rebecca Pritchard.
Meanwhile, there was a clean sheet for goalkeeper Delyth Morgan, who has been praising the team spirit within the ranks.
She said: “I’ve said this for a long time, for at least a couple of years now, that the team togetherness of our team is absolutely brilliant.
“Thinking back to teams I’ve been to in the past, nothing (that’s) ever been like this.
“So, we do have our difficult moments, but we always find a way to get through and the mentality of the team togetherness gets us through over the line.”
Morgan has featured in Welsh Cup and Adran Trophy matches this campaign, with Liz Craven an ever-present in the league for the side.
“This season’s been very different to what has been previously, but that’s the competition that comes with the role, with the new signings we’ve brought in and only one spot for goalkeepers,” added Morgan.
“So, we just keep each other on the toes and we just keep pushing each other and keep working hard to try and get the spot every game.”
Wrexham will return to league action on Sunday as they travel to second-placed The New Saints.
It’s a testing spell for Wrexham, who still have hopes of finishing in the top-four come the mid-season split.
After meeting the Saints, the Reds then have to go to defending champions Cardiff City for their opening encounter in December.
Wrexham will finally return home when Barry Town United travel to The Rock on December 15.
The Reds currently sit in sixth place in the standings, just two points adrift of Briton Ferry Llansawel, who occupy fourth position in the table.
