IT’S all change at the foot of the Division One North standings after a dramatic weekend.
Wrexham went into the day sitting in last place, but they’re now out of the relegation zone following their thrilling 15-10 success at home to Ruthin.
A second triumph of the campaign for Wrexham meant that Ruthin slipped to the bottom of the table.
It was Ruthin who claimed the lead with a converted try, with Wrexham finally getting themselves on the scoreboard through Jacob Hughes’ penalty after half-an-hour.
Then, a minute prior to half-time, Hughes’ unconverted try handed the home side a slender lead.
Wrexham had some much-needed breathing space when skipper Jack Harrison crossed the whitewash in the 58th minute and Hughes’ successful conversion stretched the lead out to eight points.
Ruthin responded with a penalty to at least pick up a losing bonus point.
Mold fell into the relegation zone as they were beaten 23-3 at home by Llandudno, who claimed their fifth triumph of the season.
Seth Geary kicked a penalty for Mold, who are level on points with both Wrexham and Denbigh.
Denbigh were defeated 28-10 in their home clash with Bala and Llangefni bolstered their hopes of beating the drop with what could prove to be a pivotal 17-12 triumph over COBRA, who are now just six points clear of the relegation spots.
Pwllheli prevailed 34-12 during their visit to Bethesda while the match of the day between leaders Nant Conwy and second-placed Caernarfon finished up in a thrilling 23-23 draw.
Nant maintain their spot at the head of the rankings, but they are just two points ahead of Caernarfon and Pwllheli.
Division Two North front-runners Welshpool lost their unbeaten record in a 29-28 reverse at Nant Conwy Athletic, who are up to second.
On a day of close encounters, Colwyn Bay’s promotion aims were dealt a blow by a 31-30 defeat at Dolgellau.
Rhyl & District prevailed 25-20 at Caernarfon Athletic, while Newtown eased to a 38-18 margin in their meeting with Abergele.
Turning to Division Three North East and Wrexham Athletic gathered their sixth success of the season courtesy of a 13-7 verdict at COBRA Athletic.
They are five points adrift of undefeated leaders Llanidloes, who got the better of hosts Ruthin Athletic 56-14.
In the North Wales Division Three Cup, Flint lost out 20-9 to Nant Conwy Thirds.
