ARTHUR OKONKWO has suffered a broken wrist and will be out of action for at least six weeks.

The goalkeeper had a scan on his wrist after suffering an injury in Saturday's 1-0 win against Mansfield Town when he kept his eighth clean sheet in 14 League One outings this season.

Ever present in the league this season, Okonkwo, who has only conceded 10 goals, is now facing a spell on the sidelines.

Reds' boss Phil Parkinson told the official club website: "We had to send Arthur for a scan after he damaged his wrist on Saturday. Unfortunately, he has broken his wrist and is going to be out for a minimum of six weeks."

Back-up keepers Callum Burton, who has been on the subs bench in the league this season, and Mark Howard played 45 minutes apiece in Tuesday night's EFL Trophy clash with Port Vale and are competing for Okonkwo's place in the side when third played Wrexham face Stockport County at Edgeley Park on Saturday.

Parkinson added: “Our supporters may have found it a bit strange that we played both goalkeepers for 45 minutes on Tuesday night.

"That was pre-planned in terms of giving them both some game-time, but also to protect Callum a little bit as well. I feel for Arthur, he’s in good form, but we’ve got two experienced goalkeepers ready and waiting.”

Will Boyle and Luke Bolton have been added to the injury list after both picked up calf problems in the clash with Vale when Wrexham secured top spot in their group and will receive a home draw in the last 32.
