MATTY JAMES has had his first taste of playing for Wrexham and he's hungry for more game-time.
Without a club after leaving Bristol City at the end of last season, the 33-year-old was brought in by Phil Parkinson last month on a short term contract until January to provide cover in midfield.
Phillips finally made his Reds' debut in Tuesday's EFL Trophy clash against Port Vale and he loved being back out on the pitch for the first time this season.
"I was really happy that I got the opportunity to start," said Phillips.
"I was pleased I managed to play 90 minutes after not playing for a while.
"I felt alright. A little bit of cramp at the end but that is to be expected.
"I am happy with the work that I put in over the last few months that I was able to compete at a level again. It has paid off.
"I really enjoyed it and was pleased to make my debut.
"It was a good performance all-round. We were a little bit unfortunate with the penalties at the end but there are huge positives to take from the gaffer's point of view with making all the changes."
Phillips is now hoping to play his part in League One and help keep third placed Wrexham among the frontrunners.
"This was the first step for me. The next one is recover and see what happens on Saturday," he said, with the Reds back in league action at Stockport County tomorrow.
"Keep pushing and keep working hard in training.
"I want to play as many minutes as I can and try and help the team in any way I can. When an opportunity comes, try and take it.
"I am enjoying every minute of it so far."
