IN the battle of the Wrexham sides in Rugby League’s Welsh Wheelchair Challenge Cup, North Wales Crusaders beat Crusaders Celts 84-25 to win the trophy for the third year in a row.
Fionn McCabe went over first for NWC with Matthew Turner converting, only for Wyatt Jones to quickly reply for Celts with a try that Martin Turner, facing up against his son, improved.
Unconverted tries from McCabe and Martin Turner put the score on to 10-10 on 12 minutes.
Jakub Wasiecko then went over for a quick brace, with McCabe completing his hat-trick. Matthew Turner converted all three to put NWC 28-10 up on 24 minutes.
Wyatt Jones grabbed a try back for Celts, after being denied once on the line a couple of tackles earlier. Harry Jones kicked the goal.
But NWC went into half-time 46-16 up after two further tries from Wasiecko and one from Wales’ World Cup captain Stuart Williams. Jonathan Gill added two goals and Williams one.
NWC brought up 50 points early in the second half, Wasiecko going over for an early couple of tries with Gill converting both to move the score on to 58-16.
Two unconverted Celts’ tries, both from Wyatt Jones, closed the gap slightly, but NWC soon regained control thanks to tries from Booth, Wasiecko and Matthew Turner, who converted his own try.
Further NWC tries followed, through McCabe and Williams, both of which Gill converted.
But it was Celts who completed the scoring with a Harry Jones drop goal.
