MAX CLEWORTH says Wrexham have already gained revenge for last season's heavy defeat against Stockport County but the centre-back would love to register another victory over their rivals.
Phil Parkinson's men suffered a 5-0 loss at Edgeley Park in September 2023 but after both clubs had clinched promotion to League One, Wrexham registered a 2-1 home win over the Hatters on the final day of the campaign.
Both have adjusted well to life in League One, with Wrexham currently third and Stockport sitting in sixth place, and Cleworth would love to leave Greater Manchester with another victory when the sides lock horns once again tomorrow.
"There is a bit of a rivalry between us so it is a game we look forward to," said the 22-year-old.
"Stockport is not too far away and they are another big club with good history.
"They have had their dark days and had similarities to Wrexham - they fell even lower - so they have done well to get back up to League One and you have got to give them a lot of credit for that.
"There are similarities between the clubs and there is respect there but they are a team that we would like to beat and go and put in a good performance."
Cleworth wasn't in the squad when Stockport put Wrexham to the sword in the corresponding fixture last term but he helped the Reds make amends by winning at The Racecourse.
"I wasn't there on the day we lost there so I didn't have a feel for the atmosphere," he said.
"I know it wasn't the best team performance and it was one the lads were really disappointed about.
"We owed it to them when they came here at the end of the season and I think we got that back."
Back-to-back promotion winners Wrexham bounced back from their 1-0 FA Cup first round defeat to League Two Harrogate Town by beating Mansfield Town 1-0 last weekend while Stockport, humbled 5-0 by leaders Wycombe Wanders in a re-arranged fixture, also got back on track by thrashing Bolton Wanderers by the same score on Saturday.
Cleworth knows better than to take Dave Challinor's side lightly.
"We know their threats and they are a very good team," said the defender.
"I know they lost heavily to Wycombe but they bounced back.
"It is going to be another tough game and one we will have to be ready for."
Cleworth, who captained the side in Tuesday's EFL Trophy clash at Port Vale, has started the last four games after spending a month on the sidelines when he damaged ankle ligaments in the goalless draw at Leyton Orient.
"It was a new experience being injured but I was lucky, it wasn't too bad," added Cleworth.
"I owe a lot to the medical stuff for helping me get back so quick and I am feeling stronger in my ankle so hopefully the more I play, the more it starts to get better and we can start putting some good performances together."
