WREXHAM will face one of seven clubs at The Racecourse in the last 32 of the EFL Trophy
Phil Parkinson's side had already booked their place in the knockout stages going into the final group game against Port Vale on Tuesday night and a 1-1 draw at Vale Park secured top spot and a home tie in round two.
Vale won 3-1 in the penalty shoot-out but finished second and now have an away tie to look forward to.
Tranmere Rovers, Wigan Athletic, Aston Villa U21, Crewe Alexandra, Huddersfield Town and Lincoln City also finished runners-up in the other northern groups and are possible opponents for Wrexham in the round of 32.
The other group is yet to be decided. Rotherham are currently top but they take on Bradford City in the final game and although both teams have already qualified for the knockout stages, the outcome of that fixture will determine which one could be possible opponents for Wrexham.
Bradford host Rotherham next Tuesday and it is understood the second round will be drawn in the days after that game, with ties due to be played in early December.
The Reds, who won the competition in 2005, have definitely avoided Stockport County, Morecambe, Bolton Wanderers, Blackpool, Doncaster Rovers and Chesterfield who all won their groups.
The knockout rounds are regionalised until the quarter-finals so Wrexham would have to win two more matches before possibly facing a team which has qualified from the southern groups.
