DELYTH MORGAN was pleased Wrexham managed to achieve their aim of reaching the quarter-finals of the Adran Trophy.

Captain Morgan was between the sticks as the Reds dodged a potential banana skin by claiming a 4-1 success at Adran South Cwmbran Celtic.

She told the club’s YouTube channel: “We set out to do exactly what we wanted to do.

“Get through to the next round, put a decent performance in.

“But credit to Cwmbran. It wasn’t easy for us, especially the first half.”

The Reds enjoyed a fast start and they got their noses in front as early as the fourth minute through Liv Fuller.

However, Cwmbran Celtic levelled things up again within 10 minutes through Jade Crofts.

“They brought it back to 1-1, which obviously changed the game and they built a little bit of confidence as well and, to be fair, we had to perform to get the result,” added Morgan.

“Keeper pulled off some unbelievable saves... last ditch defending was brilliant as well.”

Second half strikes from Amber Lightfoot, Abbie Iddenden and Lili Jones confirmed the Reds’ success in the second half.

Manager Steve Dale, who will be keeping a close eye on this evening’s last-eight draw, said: “Very happy. I think, obviously, that was the outcome of today, to make sure that we got through the tie unscathed.

“I think we started a little bit slow. Our goal sort of woke us up a little bit and credit to Cwmbran, you know, they kept battling, obviously got level, got the equaliser and made it a real challenge.

“That first half wasn’t easy for us and I think it was key to sort of get hold of the game early in the second half and we did that, and that’s when the goals started to open up.

“So, really pleased to get through.”

Boss Jordan Parry was so proud of his Connah’s Quay Nomads’ side after they pushed holders Cardiff City close in a 2-1 defeat.

Goals from Laura Curnock and Nieve Jenkins made sure of Cardiff’s triumph, but Nomads battled right to the end and they were rewarded with a response from Anna Marsh.

In a post on X, Parry said: “Give youngsters a chance and they seldom let you down.

Nothing to be ashamed of going toe to toe with the @AdranLeagues Prem Champions coming out with that result.

“This is a ‘special’ group with a never give in attitude and I absolutely love them.”

Flint boss Oli Williams was also proud of his side’s efforts in a 4-2 loss at top flight Barry.

The visitors twice took the lead during the contest, with goals coming from Jennifer Haynes and Rosie Hughes.

Williams said: “Very proud of our ladies, it was never going to be easy playing a team in the Welsh Prem!

“We didn’t give Barry an easy game, we stepped up and lead the game twice but unfortunately fell short

“Thanks to our players, staff and supporters that travelled down.”
