PHIL PARKINSON felt Wrexham put the disappointment of conceding a last-gasp equaliser at Charlton Athletic to bed by seeing out the game against Mansfield Town.

The Reds secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over the Stags at The Racecourse in Saturday's top of the table clash to stay third in League One.

Although not at their best, Wrexham came out on top thanks to Ryan Barnett's superb strike in the sixth minute.

Wrexham conceded a last-gasp equaliser in the last league game with Charlton who converted a controversial penalty in the seventh minute of injury time to draw 2-2 at The Valley a fortnight ago.

But Parkinson felt his players learnt from that disappointment by negotiating five minutes of stoppage time to ensure there was no sucker-punch this time against Mansfield who clinched automatic promotion from League Two alongside the Reds and Stockport County last season.

"We moaned about the penalty, rightly so, but we could have done better ourselves against Charlton," said Parkinson.

"But it is on everybody's mind. You can't help that when you go to five minutes.

"Two weeks ago it proved costly but I thought the way we managed the game was really good and showed we had learnt from that last minute equaliser at The Valley.

"It is important to shake that off. It puts the Charlton thing to bed in terms of seeing the game through against Mansfield so we can always look at the positives of that.

"The game management was really good and we kept it in the corner."

Wrexham, beaten 1-0 by League Two Harrogate Town in the FA Cup first round last weekend, are now unbeaten in five league games.

Parkinson knows his side can play a lot better but he was just pleased to get back to winning ways.

"We will analyse the game and look where we could have done better in both halves," he added.

"But for now we just want to enjoy the victory. We always knew coming into this game that it would be a tough one and it extends our terrific run in the league.

"Since the Stevenage game we have had a really good run.

"The Charlton game probably tainted that because we conceded late. Maybe that and the Harrogate game jolted us a little bit but it is back to winning ways and we can look forward to Stockport next week."
