JOHNNY HASELDIN is hoping a big home win has provided the spark for his Holywell Town team.
The Wellmen bounced back from a tough run of results with a 5-1 win against Ruthin Town and more of the same will be the message for tomorrow’s home clash against Guilsfield.
“Sometimes you have to experience the lows to really appreciate the highs,” said team boss Haseldin. “The highs are great but the lows make you really look at things in a different way and want to improve.
“Every player to a man was excellent (against Ruthin), a real ‘Holywell performance’.”
While an up-and-down season so far sees the defending champions off the title pace, Haseldin has been putting things into perspective.
“If you would have offered us third-or-fourth place three-or-four years ago, we would have probably snapped your hand off,” he said.
“But we’ve got to get back to what brought us success, out-working teams.
“What’s gone has been and gone, both good and bad and we’ve got to look forward.”
Gresford Athletic and Mold Alex will be looking to bounce back from disappointing losses last time out in their big showdown this evening.
Eddie Maurice-Jones’ Athletic have home advantage as they look to recover from their 5-2 defeat versus Llandudno, while two stoppage time goals saw Mold slip to a 2-1 loss to Penrhyncoch last time out.
Mold boss Barry Owen admitted his side didn’t deserve anything from that match and he is looking for his players to learn from the defeat.
“It’ll be a completely different game,” he told the club’s Facebook page. “What we need to concentrate on, where we went wrong and make sure that doesn’t happen again.”
Gresford boss Maurice-Jones said: “This result is a reminder of the importance of consistency and capitalising on key moments. We can’t afford to dwell on things, especially with the challenge of facing the current top-three, that doesn’t get much tougher.”
Buckley Town climbed to fourth with a 3-0 win over Llay Welfare - sparked by Liam Driscoll’s second half hat-trick - and they will go third with a victory away to Prestatyn Town this evening.
Boss Asa Hamilton is taking nothing for granted, though, and he told the club’s Facebook page: “Every game’s hard, but we have to just keep having our mindset. Just keep ticking them off.
“All we can do is our job and, listen, teams will drop points around us... we’ll drop points and... we’ve just got to keep winning as much as we can.”
