TWO top-six efforts helped Wrexham athletes to finish at the top of the pile in a popular league fixture.

Tattenhall staged the latest event in the Borders road league season and Wrexham AAC’s men managed to finish the day first in Division One.

Key to this success were the efforts of Ben Goodfellow (pictured below), who clocked 31.32, and Ryan Davis (31.57), crossing the line fourth and sixth respectively.

They were backed up by James Mills (13th in 33.05), James Roberts (14th in 33.14), Scott Nixon (17th in 33.29), Daniel Weston (18th in 33.33), Luke Northall (22nd in 33.55) and James Nicholls (24th in 33.59).

Other Wrexham athletes taking part were James Yarwood (34th in 34.20), Joel Gomes (40th in 34.34), Llewellyn Edwards (58th in 36.03), Thomas Evans (137th in 40.19), Tony Forster (142nd in 40.34), Gary Norgrove (143rd in 40.41), David Jones (164th in 42.25), Owain Roberts (167th in 42.40), Nick Jones (171st in 43.00), Mike Robbins (193rd in 44.24), Andrew Bennett (222nd in 46.40), Mark Hughes (229th in 47.44), Colin Jones (256th in 51.00), Karl Moore (265th in 54.43) and Charles Ashley (269th in 55.38).

Wrexham’s women finished the day in fifth spot in Division Two, with their efforts being spear-headed by Immy Jones (24th in 41.06) and Amanda Bailey (33rd in 43.08).

They were joined at the event by Linda Jones (71st in 48.31), Rowena Lewis (78th in 49.36), Alex Edwards (117th in 57.40) and Alison Whitelaw (118th in 57.42).

Max Dowell (37.00), Drew Gray (39.21), Rayko Kolev (40.08) and Tony Woodall (40.32) were the leading Deestriders’ men in the race.

Other times: Ryan Johnson-Wilcox 42.03; Chris Preston 43.09; Tomas Kuzmicius 43.12; Paul Lewtey 44.16; Darren Low 52.02; Justin Evans 55.46; Kevin Burns 56.27; Dean Matthews 57.21.

Christine Cammillare (45.35) led Deestriders’ female contingent across the line, followed by Lisa Cooper (46.59), Jay Jennions (48.41), Hannah Price (48.59) and Bridget Aldridge (56.15).

Other times: Bernice Matthews 60.13; Claire Harper 62.15; Jane Blackwell 64.27; Bonnie Knox 64.54; Beverley Goodson 73.33.

West Cheshire’s Michael Young clocked 32 minutes and seven seconds to secure second place in his over-35 age group and eighth position overall in an event that attracted 422 finishers.

He was backed up by Matthew Douglass (30th in 34:09), Graham Wells (first over-50 man and 31st overall in 34:14), Steve King (third over-50 and 52nd overall in 35:29), Wullie McGarrell (first over-60 man and 88th overall in 37:37), Jeff Gifford (second over-60 man and 119th overall in 39:10) and Andrew Clague (third over-55 man and 121st overall in 39:13).

At the Dash in the Dark race at Llandegla Forest, Cammillare was the leading Deestrider in a time of 34.23.

She was joined at the event by clubmates Fred Aird (40.14), Paul Lewtey (41.28), Martin Witty (43.28), Debbie Parry (44.42), Amanda Scotter (47.12), Claire Harper (47.13), Sue Witty (54.54) and Jane Blackwell (54.56).

Wrexham AAC’s Rachel Jones travelled to Dublin to compete in the Malahide parkrun, where she clocked 25.29 for 122nd position.

Ryan Davis’ effort of 17.57 saw him triumph at the most recent Erddig parkrun.

There was also a top-10 spot for Harry Simcock (sixth in 20.50) and other Wrexham athletes competing were Jonathan Davies (27th in 24.14), Peter Hughes (68th in 27.08), Peter Sussex (85th in 27.58), Megan Hatfield (98th in 28.53), Macey Quick (119th in 29.57), Philip Walker (127th in 30.27), Karl Moore (149th in 31.36), Jennifer Moss (163rd in 32.35), Lucy Morris (223rd in 39.26), Alan Williams (257th in 51.04) and John Tipping (265th in 57.29).

Third-placed Steve Jones (20.04) was the leading Wrexham racer at Ruthin, followed by Gwyn Roberts (ninth in 20.47) and Anna Moccia (35th in 26.08).

Four Wrexham AAC vests were on show at Llangollen, spear-headed by an 11th-placed finish from Glyn Wise (22.07). Also in action were Simon Williams (34th in 26.07), Gwenllian Roberts (39th in 26.43) and Charles Ashley (41st in 27.40).

At Wepre, Mike Robbins crossed the line 27th with his time of 26.29.

Wrexham AAC has organised an event to celebrate the club’s 70th anniversary at Gwersyllt Park Cricket Club on Tuesday, November 26 (7pm).
