LEX XI were spot on in a nail-biting shoot-out to seal a place in this week’s Welsh Trophy last-16 draw.

The North East Wales League Premier Division leaders beat Llanidloes Town from the league above 5-4 on penalties after the Stansty Park tie had ended 1-1.

Player-boss Ricky Evans struck home the first spot-kick in the shoot-out with Jason Edwards, Liam Collo, Tom Huxley and Alex Palmer also holding their nerve from 12 yards as seven penalties weren’t converted in the shoot-out. Cameron Thomas had given Lex the lead from keeper Joey Jones’ assist but Joseph Evans levelled for Llanidloes.

Connah’s Quay Town also held their nerve in a superb comeback win at St Josephs, who had gone 2-0 up through Rikki Hayden and Zach Jones.

But a Charles Morgan own goal a minute before the break gave Town hope and whatever boss Gavin Parry (pictured below) said at half-time worked as his side levelled via Ed Brown 11 minutes from time.

Town won the shoot-out 4-2 with Brown, Ryan Hewitt, Sam Reynolds and Kyle Reid all scoring and keeper Richard Walker saving Rich Camden’s penalty.

Connah’s Quay weren’t the only ones celebrating their long trip back from south Wales as Brickfield Rangers returned from Cardiff Draconians with a 1-0 win.

Aiden Fox set up the winner for Michael Ashworth, who struck with 14 minutes to go.

Mynydd Isa’s run was ended at home by West End for whom Daryl Hughes scored twice in a 4-1 victory.

Jay Wiles had levelled for Isa at one stage.

Llanuwchllyn followed up their Welsh Cup exploits by claiming a place in the next round.

Top scorer Meilir Williams and Dan Dascalu netted in a 2-1 win at Penlan while Julian Williams’ double set up Llanrwst United’s 4-0 victory over Nantlle Vale.

Ardal North East League leaders Bow Street won a thriller 4-3 at Llannefydd, Richie Ricketts bagging two of the goals.

Trearddur Bay beat Ynyshir Albions 3-1 while Kyle Hartleb scored twice as Bethesda Athletic beat Pwllheli 4-2.
