CHESTER supporters didn’t recognise former Wrexham player Michael Ingham, who saw his Scarborough Athletic side depart the FA Cup with a narrow loss at Burton Albion.
Scarborough, where ex-Reds’ goalkeeper Ingham is assistant manager, beat fellow National League North outfit Chester 3-1 to reach the FA Cup first round and line-up a trip to League One outfit Burton, who won 1-0.
Ingham - right-hand man to former Manchester United winger Jonathan Greening - didn’t come in for stick from Blues fans.
“I don’t think they remembered me being at Wrexham,” said Ingham, who had two stints at The Racecourse.
“But because I am assistant manager, I keep a low profile. I am a stronger believer in the manager being at the forefront.
“It’s always a tough game against Chester but on the day the boys produced one of the best performances so far this season.”
Ingham, meanwhile, was surprised at the lengths some Wrexham supporters went to to get items autographed by the ex-Northern Ireland international.
“It was quite nice last season when some brave Wrexham fans were waiting outside the ground for me when we played at Chester to sign some memorabilia,” he said.
“I said ‘you must be crazy, you are going to get lynched’, but they said they weren’t scared!”
