The FC United of Wrexham Women's Futsal Team has made history.

They are the first champions of the NEWFA Women's Futsal League.

This achievement may also make them the first Welsh women's team to win a domestic futsal league title in Wales.

The winning goal was scored by Leah Davies, a former Everton trialist, in the season finale.

The team was led by head coach Gareth Jones.

Mr Jones has spent more than 10 years fostering women's futsal talent.

Mr Jones said: "These players have earned a place in history.

"Their commitment and heart both on and off the court are unmatched.

"To bring home the first-ever Welsh women’s futsal title is an honour beyond words.

"It’s been a privilege to see these players grow and reach such heights, setting a new standard for the future of women’s futsal in Wales."

Andrew Ruscoe, founder and chairman of FC United of Wrexham’s women’s futsal programme, commended the team's achievement.

"This is only the beginning."
