FA CUP runs and promotion challenges have gone hand-in-hand for Wrexham in recent years.
Phil Parkinson’s men have enjoyed success in the competition, reaching the fourth round in each of the last two seasons before bowing out to a Championship club.
Those cup adventures never had a detrimental effort on the league form as the Reds twice celebrated promotion at the end of the campaign.
If the pattern of recent seasons is anything to go by then the Reds, who are flying high in League One, will go through a few rounds of the cup and then clinch promotion to the Championship in May, but we all know it’s not as easy at that!
To take a step closer to a glamorous third round tie against a Premier League side - something Wrexham haven’t experienced under Parkinson - they will have to account for Harrogate at the opening hurdle.
The Reds’ boss might take the opportunity to make some changes with a strong squad at his disposal but while the League Two side won’t be taken lightly, nothing more than progress to the next stage will do at Wetherby Road on Sunday.
