REGULAR marathons are tough enough as they are - but when you throw in Snowdonia, things get really challenging.

North Wales athletes headed to Llanberis to compete in this year’s Marathon Eryri.

Ryan Davis was the leading Wrexham AAC competitor, clocking 3-07.00 to cross the line in 55th position.

He was followed by clubmates Gwyn Roberts (231st in 3-39.06), Deb Pugh (1,135th in 4-40.19) and Charles Ashley (2,177th in 6.16.03).

A quintet of Deestriders also took part, spear-headed by Rayko Kolev in a time of 3-52.08.

Next in was Nige Parr in 4-06.53, followed by Sallyann Oneil (4-07.27), Graham Bryan (4-48.28) and Christine Cammillare (5-21.19).

Cammillare raised money for Jackson’s Animal Rescue by way of a series of running challenges, taking part with friend Johanna Gasson, who discovered their animal instincts dressed as cat and rabbit respectively!

Incredibly, on the way home, Cammillare took part in the Conwy Dark Run, a charity fun run in aid of Hope House Hospice.

Also there from Deestriders were Amanda Scotter, Lana O’Brien and Claire Harper with their children, and Andy Wainwright.

Wrexham’s Linda Jones was the third F50 and 53rd overall at the Clwydian Hills fell race, in Cilcain, with her effort of 2-16.09, while Neil Edwards (57.53) crossed the line in 210th during the most recent North Staffs cross-country league fixture at Stafford.

Two of the leading three finishers at the Erddig parkrun donned Wrexham AAC vests.

Ben Goodfellow triumphed in the race with 18.02 and Robert Miles, who clocked 20.39, was third on the day.

There were also top-40 efforts from the likes of Michael Jones (13th in 22.41), Grace Hughes (19th in 23.16), Amanda Bailey (23rd in 23.45), Evie Hughes (25th in 24.12), Andrew Bennett (39th in 25.16) and David Millington (40th in 25.22).

They were joined at the race by Beth Christy (84th in 28.11), Karl Moore (101st in 29.10), Peter Sussex (129th in 31.13), Lucy Morris (223rd in 40.58), Alan Williams (245th in 50.02) and John Tipping (256th in 55.48).

At the Fort William parkrun, Tomos Marriott’s time of 32.46 saw him placed 54th.

Closer to home, Mike Robbins (25.02) crossed the line as the 20th runner at Wepre and competing at Crosby were Connor Rogers (16th in 20.36) and Mark Hughes (94th in 26.57).

Glyn Wise (20.44) took third position at Llangollen, followed by Wrexham clubmates Simon Williams (36th in 26.03) and Jennifer Moss (78th in 31.11).

Meanwhile, at Delamere, Rachel N Reeves was 446th in a time of 52.38.

On Sunday, Tattenhall will host the next fixture in the Borders road race running league.

Two West Cheshire Athletic Club teenagers have been named on the England Athletics Youth Talent Programme.

Throwers Kara Stoll and Harriet Wheeler, and their coach Dave McKay, have been selected to take the first step on the Talent pathway designed to meet the needs of identified, talented English athletes/para athletes aged between 16 and 18 years of age.

Kara is ranked sixth in the UK for her U17 age group in hammer throwing after achieving a personal best of 49.52m at last month’s Final Fling Competition at Wrexham’s Queensway Stadium.

Harriet is ranked third in the UK for her U17 age group in javelin after producing 37.86m in her only javelin competition appearance of the year at last month’s Final Fling Competition following her recovery from an injury.
