A WREXHAM boxer has shown he is one of the best young fighters in the world.

Llay ABC’s Milwyn Duncan Lloyd has been competing at the World U19s’ boxing championships, being held at Pueblo Convention Center in Colorado.

A superb run through to the semi-finals ensures he comes away from the event with a bronze medal.

In the men’s 65kg category, Lloyd received a first round bye and he then proved too strong for India’s Yashwardhan Singh during the next stage.

A triumph against Italy’s Francesco Di Spazio in the quarter-finals ensured that Lloyd would pick up a medal.

Lloyd’s brilliant run was ended by his semi-final defeat to Australian Cooper McConnell.

He is one of four Welsh boxers at the tournament.

Brecon’s Dan Pitt is through to the final in the 85kg category, while Llandudno’s Alfie Lewis suffered a last-16 loss to Australian Jacob Cassar in the 60kg section.

Cardigan’s Mikey O’Sullivan made sure of bronze in the 55kg category, where he lost in the semi-finals to Japan’s Fuma Kumamoto.
