PHIL PARKINSON will never take Wrexham's "outstanding" support for granted and says it is important there is a connection between the team and fans through the highs as well as the lows.

The Reds have been backed in huge numbers up and down the country in League One this season with nearly 2,700 supporters making the long trip to south east London to see the clash against Charlton Athletic at The Valley last month.

With Wrexham leading 2-1 heading into the closing stages, a controversial penalty which was converted by the home side in the seventh minute of injury time denied Parkinson's high-fliers another away win.

Despite the disappointment at not clinching three points, the travelling Red and White had seen their team produce an excellent away performance and the players were applauded off the pitch following the final whistle, something that Parkinson says everyone at the club was grateful for.

"With the emotions of the penalty and us conceding late, I don't think I got the chance to really thank our supporters enough," said the Reds' boss.

"To take 3,000 fans down to London was an extraordinary effort from all the Wrexham supporters, it really was.

"We know that's a long journey and we know the expense of that as well.

"But not just that, the backing they gave the lads was outstanding. Even at the final whistle when everybody was really down about the goal, the reception the supporters gave the lads was brilliant.

"The lads do appreciate it and I think it is very important that we don't take our supporters for granted because the support we are getting is top-Championship level in my eyes.

"I want to make sure we keep that connection with the supporters and the team there, that we feel the pain together when we have a moment like that but we enjoy the good times as well."

Wrexham, who sit third in the table, are back on the road against Stockport County at Edgeley Park on Saturday.
