DAN SCARR says Phil Parkinson's decision to build a strong squad is paying off and Wrexham can cope with injuries to key players.

Summer signing Scarr had to bide his time after arriving from Plymouth Argyle from with the Reds flying high in League One.

But he has taken his chance and impressed since coming into defence in place of Max Cleworth who sustained an injury in the goalless draw at Leyton Orient on September 28, showing why he was highly sought after by Parkinson.

The Reds' boss has had to deal with a number of injuries including leading scorer Jack Marriott, who has suffered a broken leg which will keep him out of action for at least four months, but with Paul Mullin - a prolific scorer over the last three seasons - getting his opportunity in the side, centre-back Scarr believes it shows how important it is to have strength in depth in the ranks.

"I am gutted for Jack," said Scarr. "He was flying and doing well for the team but that's why you have got such a big squad for someone like Mulls to step in and do what is required of him.

"The management team do a good job of making sure everyone is ready if anything does happen, to step in and perform to the best they can.

"That is what we have got squad depth for and that is what we are going to need this season.

"You have just got to be patient and keep doing the right things when you are not playing.

"The gaffer spoke to me to make sure I was alright and I was like 'I understand it'. The lads were doing well and if I was in that position, I wouldn't want it changing.

"The main thing is the team wins the games and picks up points."

Wrexham have emerged unbeaten from a block of games against clubs who have been at a higher level but Scarr says the players won't take upcoming opponents lightly.

Parkinson's back-to-back promotion winners took five points from thee matches in the space of eight days, with a 1-0 victory at Rotherham United followed by a goalless draw at home to Huddersfield and Saturday's 2-2 stalemate with Charlton Athletic at The Valley.

Now third in the table heading into Sunday's FA Cup first round tie at Harrogate Town, Scarr says every team will be given the respect they deserve regardless of what level they have been at.

"We are where we are because we put the work in and we will continue to do so," he added.

"We have had a good start but we are not getting ahead of ourselves because there is a long way to go.

"Every game is a tough game, whether is a team that has been in the Premier League, Championship or hasn't and just knows League One well.

"They all offer something different so whoever we play, we will try and be best prepared as we have done every game and try to get a good result."
