PHIL PARKINSON may have been angry that Charlton were awarded a last-gasp penalty to rescue a point but he was proud of Wrexham's "outstanding" performance at The Valley.

The entertaining League One fixture ended it a 2-2 draw with the Addicks twice coming from behind to earn a share of the spoils.

Tom O'Connor's free-kick, went in off Conor Coventry, put Wrexham ahead in the first half and although the home side levelled before the break, substitute Andy Cannon restored the Reds' lead in the second period just one minute after his introduction.

Second placed Wrexham were heading for a second away win in a row but Alan Dale, who was fourth official but replaced injured referee Sam Purkiss in the opening half, felt Max Cleworth had handled Miles Leaburn’s header in the area and Matty Godden converted the penalty in the seventh minute of injury time.

Although he was fuming with the decision, Parkinson was delighted with the display.

"It was an outstanding performance. The lads were brilliant," he said.

"We came here and controlled the game and played some great football.

"Everything we set out to do against their shape we did.

"We switched the play well and it was an all-round accomplished display in front of 20,000 plus fans.

"We were calm and we were physical but we were calm in possession, made some great decisions on the ball and everything we wanted to do we did.

"I am very proud of the performance of the lads.

"Of course we can always do better ourselves in terms of letting the ball come out of the corner (in the lead up to the penalty) but we can reflect on a performance which was a very high end one."
