PHIL PARKINSON felt his Wrexham players gave a good account of themselves against a Huddersfield side containing a wealth of Championship experience and described it as a "decent point".

Tuesday night's League One clash against the Terriers ended in a goalless draw at The Racecourse, with few clear cut chances created by either side.

Wrexham had the better of the first half and although the visitors came more into the game after the break, it finished honours even with Parkinson admitting it was the toughest test that the Reds, who won their opening five league matches at home, have had on their own territory this season.

"It was a hard-fought draw," said the Reds' boss.

“I thought first half we were the better side. We dominated for periods and couldn’t quite get the moment.

“They changed the shape and they flattened out the midfield in the second half and made it more difficult so credit to them for that, and it became an even tighter game.

“It was always going to be like that, no quarter given, and it was a high-quality game in terms of two teams being very structured out of possession and giving very little away.

"Give them credit, they made it difficult for us, but equally our lads stuck to their jobs in hand very well. It was a real shift for us.

"Could we have done better at times with the ball, of course, but it was two teams who gave everything and it was always going to be which team could produce that special moment to win the game and it wouldn't come for us.”

After following up Saturday's 1-0 victory at Rotherham with a solid point against the Terriers who recently spent two seasons in the Premier League and were relegated from the Championship last term, Parkinson believes it is a total that his back-to-back promotion winners can he happy with.

"If you'd have said that from Rotherham and Huddersfield we’d take four points, I think most people would have taken that so it was a decent point," said Parkinson, whose side remain second in the table ahead of Saturday's trip to Charlton Athletic.

"There was a lot of players in Huddersfield's team who have played a lot of Championship football.

"That's great testament to our lads, two divisions separated us and Huddersfield last year. We've come up and we've gone toe to toe with them.

"I am pleased with the test we have come through."

Parkinson praised goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo after keeping a seventh clean sheet in 12 league outings.

"Arthur is colossus, such a presence," he added.

"He has had a really good start to the season, we expect that from him but we don't take it for granted because he works hard at his game, and he had a good back-three in front of him against Huddersfield."
