HOW times have changed since Wrexham last faced Huddersfield Town in the Football League 19 years ago.

Wrexham were in administration and relegation from League One had already been confirmed when Denis Smith’s side lost 2-1 against the Terriers at The Racecourse on the final day of the 2004-05 season.

The decline both on and off the pitch continued, with Wrexham going on to spend 15 years in non-league, but it’s been a different story since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney completed their takeover.

Two promotions later and the Reds are back in the third tier, and tonight they entertain Huddersfield who spent two seasons in the Premier League before being relegated in 2019, while the West Yorkshire club also lost their Championship status last season.

The clubs have suffered contrasting fortunes over the last couple of years with Phil Parkinson’s men heading in the right direction and the Terriers eager to stop the decline.

Long suffering Wrexham supporters could only dream about games like this during the dark days but the good times are back!
