FLINT TOWN UNITED and Connah’s Quay Nomads both produced five-star second round displays but it was spot-kick heartache for Buckley Town as they lost a thriller to Colwyn Bay.

Asa Hamilton’s Buckley side were pipped 6-5 on penalties by Colwyn Bay following a 2-2 draw at The Globe.

It took a last minute spot-kick for the Seagulls to take the tie the full distance.

Goals from Callum Humphries and Max Moore appeared to have made sure of the home side’s progress, however an 89th minute foul on Lloyd Marsh-Hughes resulted in a penalty award and this was converted by Jamie Cummings.

Hamilton told the club’s Facebook page: “I’m really proud of my boys and they’ve shown me exactly what they want to do this year and it’s now just about getting consistency and doing that every week.”

Nomads opened their defence of the trophy by keeping their fourth clean sheet on the bounce with a 5-0 win at home to Guilsfield.

Tyler Berry’s strike made sure Quay had the lead at the midway point, while efforts from Ben Maher and Rhys Hughes stretched the advantage in the second period.

Jordan Pownall’s first senior goal for the club and Aron Williams’ strike wrapped things up before the end.

Quay boss Billy Paynter told S4C’s Sgorio: “It was important that we wasn’t a team to lose today and being upset and I think so many people were hoping that. It was a good, professional performance from my lads.”

Flint were given a scare before they eventually confirmed their progress with a 5-1 verdict at home to Gresford Athletic.

Eddie Maurice-Jones’ visitors had the lead at the interval as they sought to spring a surprise, but Lee Fowler’s Silkmen produced a five-goal second half show.

In the best possible start for Gresford, just two minutes had elapsed when Charley Edge’s cross was fired home by Charlie Mann.

Josh Jones levelled five minutes into the second half, before Harley Brindley-Peagram’s deflected strike handed Flint the lead. Ilan ap Gareth, Ben Wynne and Jones added other efforts to confirm Flint’s progress.

Also through are Cymru North leaders Airbus, who dodged a potential banana skin with their 2-0 success at Porthmadog. Patience was a virtue for the Wingmakers, who managed to break the deadlock with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.

From Joe Palmer’s corner, Tyler McManus made it 1-0 with a free header.

Airbus doubled their lead in the last minute of the tie through James Davies’ ambitious overhead kick.

Manager Mark Allen told the club’s X site: “I’m just pleased to get through, really. I think they set out to frustrate and catch us on the counter, which they did a couple of times. But I felt, particularly in the second half, we broke them down.”
