PAUL MULLIN scored Wrexham's fastest goal of the campaign as the frontman's strike after just 16 seconds secured a 1-0 win against Rotherham United at New York Stadium in League One.

Mullin struck after just 16 seconds, bagging his third goal this season and first in the league.

It was an end-to-end game with both teams having chances but Wrexham secured a second away win this term to remain second in the table, two points behind leaders Birmingham City.

Parkinson made one change from the Wrexham side which started the last league game - a 4-1 win at home to Northampton Town - two weeks earlier.

With top scorer Jack Marriott missing through injury, Mullin came into attack alongside Ollie Palmer who this week signed a new contract, keeping him at The Racecourse until the end of the 2025-26 season.

To bolster his attacking options in the absence of Marriott, Parkinson included Mo Faal among the substitutes.

Faal, yet to feature in the league, opened his Wrexham account with an acrobatic volley in the 3-0 EFL Trophy win against Wolves under 21s last time out when the Reds' boss named a different side to the one that started the Northampton win three days earlier.

Wrexham made a perfect start by taking the lead inside the first minute.

Ryan Barnett sent in a cross from the right that was volleyed home by Mullin from six yards.

Rotherham responded with Joe Rafferty's shot from outside the area which was comfortably saved by Arthur Okonkwo while opposite number  Cameron Dawson easily gathered another Mullin effort at the other end.

Christ Tiehi fired straight at Okonkwo from 25 yards and with Rotherham enjoying a good spell, Rafferty's drive fell narrowly wide and his cross was just beyond Hakeem Odoffin.

Wrexham won a couple of corners but Rotherham went close when Joe Powell's free-kick flicked off a Reds' player and Okonkwo made a brilliant finger-tip save to keep the ball out and Cohen Bramall's follow-up was blocked.

It remained 1-0 at the break and Wrexham were awarded a free-kick early in the second half when Ollie Palmer was brought down on the edge of the area by Cameron Humphreys but Tom O'Connor's free-kick was straight at Dawson.

The game was end to end with Malik Wilks beating O'Connor before seeing his shot turned into the side-netting by Okonkwo while Mullin's header from Barnett's cross was claimed by Dawson

Wrexham came close when Andy Cannon's cross reached James McClean whose shot was deflected behind for a corner from which Dan Scarr's header was well saved by Dawson.

Rotherham should have scored when Wrexham failed to clear a corner and Sam Nombe was unable to hit the target from a good position in the box.

Both teams had chances with Wrexham going close when substitute Ollie Rathbone played in Mullin but Dawson got down low to save the striker's shot while Bramall's free-kick palmed was away by Okonkwo.

Wrexham saw out the game and picked up another victory.
