A SINGLE decathlon wasn’t enough to keep a Wrexham athlete on his toes in the Netherlands.

Instead, Wrexham AAC member Neil Edwards made the decision to tackle the Delft double decathlon and he managed to top the M45 class with 3,967 points.

He impressed in the 100m (15.48), 200m (34.81), 400m (109.38), 800m (4-46.86) and 1500m (9-52.36), while Edwards maintained his push for success in the 3000m (22-26.53), 5000m (39-35.06) and 10,000m (91-32.00).

Other races came in the 110m hurdles (22.53), 200m hurdles (40.14), 400m hurdles (127.95) and 3000m steeplechase (24-25.27).

Turning to the field events and Edwards launched the javelin to 33.50m, while he also competed in the shot put (8.99m), discus (28.62m), hammer (24.24m), high jump (1.35m), pole vault (2.50m), long jump (4.26m) and triple jump (8.49m).

Matt Clowes (30.03) took 21st spot in the Abbey Dash 10k in Leeds, while there was a strong Wrexham contingent at the Oswestry 10k, spear-headed by Tony Forster, who crossed the line 73rd in 42.45.

He was followed by Owain Roberts (119th in 45.09), Ben Gillin (128th in 45.34), Mark Hughes (229th in 49.06), Andrew Bennett (286th in 51.02), Richard James (356th in 52.46), Karl Moore (468th in 55.43), Charles Ashley (524th in 57.33) and Jennifer Moss (753rd in 64.28).

Deestrider Steph Salusbury ran an excellent personal best of 1-46.06 at the Manchester half-marathon, whilst David Temple (49.50) and Darren Low (50.14) competed in the Wirral 10k.

Ellesmere Port was the latest focus location for Deestriders’ parkrun blitz.

Leading the contingent were Antony Woodall (20.52), Rayko Kolev (21.26) and Darren Low (25.59).

Max Dowell achieved 19.34 at Chester, David Temple (24.35) raced at Widnes, Sue Bryan (37.13) headed to Ruthin and Paul Lewtey (29.29) competed at Greenfield.

Eight Wrexham racers tackled the most recent Llangollen parkrun and Ally Hughes clocked 18.03 to finish as the runner-up.

Top-10 berths also went the way of Evie Hughes (eighth in 20.46) and Grace Hughes (ninth in 20.56).

They were joined at the race by clubmates Steve Jones (14th in 22.26), Karl Moore (56th in 26.48), Charles Ashley (67th in 28.00), John Tipping (133rd in 52.19) and Stephen Walker (135th in 57.39).

Connor Rogers (19.54) was the runner-up at the Lyme parkrun, with Mark Hughes clocking 28.17 for 44th, while Mike Robbins (17th in 25.09) and Amanda Bailey (20th in 25.30) were the Wrexham racers at Wepre.

Ian Grimshaw (23rd in 25.02) and Sarah Grimshaw (48th in 27.08) competed in the Squerryes Winery parkrun and Rachel N Reeves (54.19) was 87th at Abermaw.
