RUABON ROVERS enjoyed a nail-biting penalty shoot-out victory to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the North East Wales FA U14s Cup.

Rovers edged out Hawarden Rangers 9-8 on penalties after the tie had ended 2-2.

Freddie Wright scored and set up Joshua Roberts’ goal with both players holding their nerve from 12 yards in the shoot-out. Einoras Kavaliauskas and Archie Jones scored in normal time for Rangers.

There were also close encounters at Borras Park Rangers and Kinnerton Oaks.

Oaks beat Saltney Town 4-3 with Sonny Harrison (3) and Isaac Morgan netting as Theo De Costa replied with a treble.

Brymbo Lodge sneaked through 3-2 at Borras thanks to Jack Beech, Ashton Jones and Oscar Hughes. David Iriekpen and Cai Williams hit back for Borras.

Olly Edwards bagged Chirk’s winner in a 2-1 success against Borras Park Albion Blues. Callum Batters grabbed the other from the penalty spot with Logan Hay replying.

Louie Loughlin, Ethan Jones, Sam Williams, Logan Roberts and Ollie-Jay Binnersley were Penycae’s marksmen in a 5-0 triumph over Llangollen while Broughton United were 8-1 winners at Coedpoeth United.

Lampis Tsapi and Jacob Carter both hit trebles with Bailey Allman bagging the other two.

FC Nomads knocked out Borras Park Albion Yellows, Riley Sumner and Alex Davies netting doubles in a 7-1 success. Harry Harvey, Cian Beech-Moulton and William Rosney also scored with Henry Brunt hitting back.

Greenfield were another team to make home advantage count as they beat Gresford Athletic 6-1. Daniel Aziz (3), Harry Pae (2) and Max Thomas did the damage with Luke Priest replying.

There was one tie in the North East Wales League’s U15s Cup and Chirk captain Nathan Ellis led from the front with a hat-trick in a 3-1 victory at Holywell Town for whom Bobby Poole replied.

Hawarden Rangers and Connah’s Quay Tigers United put on a goalfest in Flintshire’s Luke Ashford U12s Cup.

Rangers ended up 11-6 winners.

There were double figure wins for Saltney, Buckley Town Boys and Connah’s Quay Tigers Titans.

Saltney’s Patryk Wytrwal smashed in six and Aldo Cortez Marchesini hit a hat-trick against Bellevue while Jacob Chamberlain and Matty McCormack fired trebles for Buckley against Broughton United.

Saltney’s U11s side also went through, Mason Rimmer another hat-trick hero in a 9-1 triumph over AFC Flint.

Holywell Town won 4-2 at Mold Alex Town while Kinnerton Oaks enjoyed a 7-3 success at Deeside Dragons.

Llay United made it five wins on the bounce to stay top of the U13s Blue Division in the Wrexham Junior League.

They were 6-2 winners at Ruabon Rovers for whom Dexter Dodwell bagged both.

In the battle of the Borras Park Albion teams, the Yellows beat the Blues 5-4 in a real thriller.

Chirk’s 6-0 win at Johnstown kept them on top of the U13s Red Division.

Gresford Athletic enjoyed a double-figures win over Ruthin Town while Cefn Mawr Rangers edged it 3-2 at Coedpoeth United Falcons.

Brymbo’s 8-0 home win over Hope Dragons means they still lead the way in the U13s Green Division.

Second-placed Dinas Wrecsam won 3-1 at FC Queen’s Park while Corwen also had an enjoyable awayday, winning 4-1 at FC Llay United.
