LEE FOWLER is pleased his Flint Town United side won’t have to come up against The New Saints again this season.

The defending champions made it a hat-trick of triumphs against the Silkmen with a 5-0 outcome in midweek.

Flint boss Fowler (pictured below) told S4C’s Sgorio: “It’s difficult. I watched the Cardiff Met game and TNS were back purring.

“I’m just glad we don’t have to play them again, because too many people have been thriving in TNS’ downfall over late and they’re a very, very good outfit and I’m just glad we don’t have to play them again.

“No matter how much we try and we push, and we try and probe and change things, they just find a way and, as I said, I’m glad we don’t have to play them again.”

Heading into Tuesday, The New Saints had triumphed in both of their previous meetings with Flint this season, with a 5-1 Welsh League Cup victory being followed by a 4-1 success in the league.

The Saints were 3-0 to the good by the midway point of the latest showdown, with goals coming from Jordan Williams, Remi Oteh and Dan Williams.

Second half efforts from Oteh and Adrian Cieslewicz put the gloss on the success, which sees Craig Harrison’s side into the top-three.

Connah’s Quay Nomads made it three clean sheets on the bounce during their trip to Bala Town.

However, there was no three-point haul for Billy Paynter’s side as the contest finished up 0-0.

The best chance of the evening went to the Lakesiders via unmarked captain Nathan Peate, but his header ended up wide of the target.

Nomads were on the front foot as the game ended and Aron Williams’ cross-shot went narrowly wide.

Manager Paynter said: “I felt we were disappointed, certainly in our possession.

“We had the majority of the possession, but we used it far too slow. Didn’t break down Bala.

“Bala were very structured in their shape, but when that happens and there’s a mid block, you need to move the ball a lot quicker, if it’s through the thirds or from side-to-side.”

Aberystwyth Town hauled themselves off the foot of the standings after they stunned hosts Caernarfon Town 4-1.

First half efforts from Jonathan Evans, Louis Bradford and Niall Flint set Aber on the way to only their second league win of the campaign. Flint doubled up to add the fourth, before Zack Clarke grabbed a consolation.

Briton Ferry Llansawel are now in last place on the back of their 2-1 home loss to Haverfordwest County.

Leaders Penybont had to be satisfied with a point from their 1-1 draw at Cardiff Met, while a superb second half turnaround saw Barry triumph 4-2 at Newtown. Aaron Williams and an own goal had handed the Mid Walians a 2-1 lead at the break.
