THE toughest of tests awaits Mold tomorrow.
It doesn’t get harder than coming up against Nant Conwy in North Wales and that’s who Mold will play host to in Division One North.
Defending champions Nant have won four out of four to sit at the head of the standings, while Mold are in the middle of the pack courtesy of their nine-point haul from the opening weeks of the campaign.
While admitting there’s a tough spell coming up for Mold, head coach Alex Jones said: “We’re not far off where we were in terms of a points prediction.”
Wrexham, just sitting outside the bottom two, are also faced with a tough task tomorrow.
The Bryn Estyn road side, who have bagged one league win so far, can look forward to home comforts for their meeting with second-placed Caernarfon.
The Gwynedd side can boast a 100 per cent record in the league, while Wrexham go into the contest following on from a hard-fought 31-26 triumph against COBRA in the Welsh Division One Cup.
“There were some really pleasing things in the cup win against COBRA, in the way we kept the ball and attacked, there was also improvement in our defence which was good to see,” said Wrexham skipper Jack Harrison.
“Saturday is another tough test. Caernarfon have had a good start to the season and will fancy themselves to be up there at the end.
“They have a big and experienced side and we need to make sure that we’re ready for the challenge.
“We pushed them close at home last season and possibly should’ve seen the game out, so hopefully we can keep improving and get a good performance this weekend.”
Other fixtures: Bethesda v Denbigh; Llangefni v Bala; Ruthin v Pwllheli.
Division Two North: Dolgellau v Newtown; Nant Conwy Ath v Colwyn Bay; Rhyl & District v Abergele; Welshpool v Machynlleth.
Llanidloes will replace Wrexham Athletic at the head of the Division Three North East rankings if they can avoid defeat at Flint.
Unbeaten Mold Athletic head to COBRA Athletic, Llangollen-based Bro Gwernant welcome Ruthin Athletic and Rhosllanerchrugog are away to Denbigh Athletic.
RGC’s Super Rugby Cymru campaign continues with a trip to third-placed Ebbw Vale.
The North Walians lost out 32-20 during their game at Pontypool last time out and director of rugby Josh Leach told the RGC website: “We expect it to be similar next week at Ebbw Vale and the boys have talked post-game on making sure we learn from today, and we will need to do that if we want to go one better result wise.”
RGC have welcomed Isaia Lotawa to North Wales as part of a player exchange with Seattle Seawolves.
With former player Huw Taylor over in the MLR with Seattle, the opportunity came to bring the second-row across the pond to gain experience in North Wales arose.
“It’s a great opportunity to continue developing my rugby and a great chance to experience something different,” said Lotawa.
“The boys have welcomed me and I have settled in quickly and can’t wait to see what the season brings.”
Seattle-born Lotawa he has played for Seattle Rugby, Seawolves, St Marys College of California and Yakete.
Tomorrow’s other fixtures: Aberavon v Bridgend; Carmarthen Quins v Pontypool; Swansea v Cardiff.
