CALUM MCINTYRE admits it’s likely to be a tough prospect as his Chester side looks to make it through to the first round proper of the FA Cup.
The Blues will travel to Scarborough Athletic tomorrow for an all-National League North showdown.
Manager McIntyre says he will be pondering his team selection carefully as the Blues aim to extend their unbeaten run to 12 matches.
McIntyre told Chester FC TV: “We have an FA Cup game, that is a problem for us and for us to be competitive, we have to have a small squad.
“As much as people can talk about us and where we should be in this division, for us to be mildly competitive, we have to split what we have to spend a certain amount of ways and... we’ve lost another one physically, two suspensions next week at Scarborough.
“If we’re serious about promotion, have to use some of those younger lads. It’s going to be tough but it’s the FA Cup.”
Chester beat Scarborough at home 3-2 in National League North in August when Kurt Willoughby (pictured right) grabbed a stoppage-time winner.
The Seadogs will be out for revenge and they’ll have ex-Wrexham goalkeeper Mike Ingham facing them in the home dug-out.
Ingham is assistant manager alongside Jon Greening while ex-Wrexham players will be going up against each other tomorrow in a bid to seal their place in Monday’s first round draw.
On-loan striker Jake Bickerstaff will hope to be involved for Altrincham at home to Solihull Moors where Jordan Tunnicliffe now plies his trade.
Billy Waters, another Wrexham striker out on loan, will be in the Halifax team at Oldham where ex-Reds frontman Mike Fondop has enjoyed a good start to the season.
Ben Tozer will line up for Forest Green Rovers at home to Weymouth while goalkeeper Luke McNicholas will hope for a quiet afternoon when his Rochdale side visit Fylde.
It’s as big day for Wrexham-born Robbie Savage too.
Now head coach at Macclesfield, Savage, who has ex-Wrexham and Chester schemer John Rooney at his disposal, takes his team to Tamworth.
