ANTHONY FORDE has had a tough time of it during his Wrexham career but Dave Jones says the wing-back showed everyone he has still got it following his superb performance against Wolves under 21s.

The 30-year-old joined the Reds in the summer of 2022 from Oxford United and missed part of his first season at The Racecourse after his wife Laura was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Back in the ranks for Wrexham's return to the Football League, Forde missed the second half of the 2023-24 campaign due to a back problem.

Phil Parkinson last month submitted his squad-list for the first half of the 2024-25 season and there was no place for Forde who was still being assessed.

With two spots remaining for senior outfield players, there is the option to name the Irishman when he returns to full fitness.

Although he cannot feature in League One matches, Forde can play in cup competitions and he made his second start of the campaign as Wrexham beat Wolves' youngsters 3-0 at The Racecourse to guarantee their place in the EFL knockout stages with one game to spare.

Not only did he complete the whole match but Forde had a hand in all three goals, having assists for Lewis Brunt and Paul Mullin in the first-half before the visitors failed to clear his cross after the break and Mo Faal scored with an acrobatic volley.

"We will give Fordy that third assist!" said first-team Jones.

"It is about being physically and mentally right to be able to come and perform, and that's what he's done.

"He's been patient for his chance and it was an outstanding performance considering he hasn't had much football, and to get three assists is a great boost for him."
