DAVE JONES hopes Harry Ashfield continues to fulfil his potential and become an integral part of the Wrexham squad.

The 18-year-old midfielder, who hails from Wrexham, made his full debut in Tuesday's 3-0 win against Wolves under 21s at The Racecourse as Phil Parkinson's side guaranteed their place in the EFL Trophy knockout stages of the competition with one game to spare.

Having made his Wrexham bow in a 3-0 win at Crewe Alexandra last October in the Trophy when he was a late replacement, Ashfield again impressed when he was introduced as 78th minute substitute for this season's first group game in the competition at home to Salford City in September which ended in a 2-1 success.

Ashfield, who has come through the youth ranks at his home-town club, caught the eye in his 80 minute run-out against Wolves' youngsters and first-team coach Jones says the teenager deserved another chance in the senior set-up.

"Harry works hard in training all the time, he has been playing for the youth team, playing for the reserves, and he has appeared a few times for the first team," said Jones.

"For him to continue that progression against Wolves, as well as other players like Aaron James who has been in and around the first team training for a while, and put in such an impressive performance and fit in nicely, is very pleasing.

"Hopefully they will keep building on those performances and be a real, integral part of the squad moving forward."
