MO FAAL says it "doesn't get much better" than opening his account for Wrexham with an acrobatic volley.

The Gambian-born striker has found opportunities limited since arriving at The Racecourse from West Bromwich Albion for an undisclosed fee on transfer deadline day.

Since starting the opening EFL Trophy group game against Salford City which Wrexham won 2-1, the 21-year-old has had to play a waiting game.

Back in the side for the Reds' second game in the competition at home to Wolves under 21s on Tuesday, Faal found the back of the net with a stunning finish to complete the scoring in a 3-0 win which saw Phil Parkinson's side book their place in the knockout stages with a match to spare.

On getting off the mark for Wrexham, Faal said: "It feels good.

"I came into the game wanting to score a goal and I kind of put a little bit of pressure on myself.

"But coming in at half-time and speaking to the gaffer, he said 'just keep doing the right stuff and it will come', and that's exactly what happened so I am delighted and buzzing.

"It was decent, wasn't it! But if I didn't think I was offside, I probably wouldn't have gone for it. Because I thought I was offside, I went for an acrobatic.

"It doesn't get much better than that for a first goal, does it?"

For the first time this season, supporters voted for the man of the match award against Wolves' youngsters.

Faal, who spent last season on loan at League Two clubs Doncaster Rovers and Walsall, scoring 15 goals, scooped the gong but he was surprised.

"I don't know how they have made me man of the match, there were so many great performances out there," he said.

"But I am just pleased that the fans thought I'd done alright."

Wrexham, second in League One with 20 points from the opening 10 games, aren't in action this weekend because the game against Lincoln City at The Racecourse on Saturday has been postponed due to international call-ups in the Imps camp.

"It is disappointing not to have a game this weekend but we are just going to take this break and come back in raring to go again," added Faal.
