AMBER LIGHTFOOT has stressed that the hard work in training had finally paid off for Wrexham.

The Reds opened their Adran Premier season with three defeats in a row, but they’re now up-and-running on the back of a 3-1 triumph away to Aberystwyth Town.

Lightfoot, who scored the second of the goals, says hard work has been on display in training from players and a first three-point haul of the season is just reward for this.

Reflecting on a first win, Lightfoot told the club’s YouTube channel: “Massive. I think it gives us the momentum now to go on and get three points against Barry next week and just kick on.

“In training, the girls have been working really hard. So, we deserve these three points today.”

Following a goalless first half, Liv Fuller’s powerful free kick was diverted into her own net by Libby Isaac for the Reds’ opener on the hour.

Lightfoot’s goal doubled the lead, prior to Imogen Scourfield pulling one back for Aber.

Wrexham soon restored their two-goal cushion via substitute Carra Jones after she was set up by Lili Jones.

On the new acquisitions to the side, Lightfoot added: “The girls have done really well.

“I think Abbie (Iddenden) held it up really well today and obviously she fed a few passes through to me in the end there.

“So, yeah, linking up with her nicely and Nat (Clark) has slotted on really well at the back.

“So, really good from the new girls coming in today.

“It gives the girls confidence going into next week.

“So, we’ll train hard Tuesday, gym Wednesday and then back to it Thursday in prep for next Sunday.”

While pleased to finally get off the mark, manager Steve Dale felt his side had to improve on their first half display.

“I think we were a bit sluggish first half,” he said.

“We knew it was going to be a tough place to come.

“Obviously, Aberystwyth have been a team over the years that make it difficult for you, especially here.

“I just felt we were a little bit sluggish to the second ball, but we had little moments in the first half that, you know, we knew once it started to click, we’d obviously start to see the better results of it.

“And then second half again, said to the girls at half-time we’ve got to be prepared to win the battle first and then let the football do the talking.

“I think, obviously, it’s nice to score a set-piece and then I think the two goals that we scored towards the end, we worked them really well and both girls, Carra and Amber, have taken them really well.

“Just really pleased to get off the mark now and get them three points and hoping to build on that ready for next week now.”

Defending champions Cardiff City lost out 1-0 during their trip to Swansea City.

Stacy John-Davis’ second half strike settled it for the hosts, who maintained their unbeaten record this season.
