LEWIS BRUNT has had to play a waiting game since joining Wrexham but Dave Jones feels the centre-back has proved he is a quality acquisition during the last two games.

The 23-year-old joined the Reds from Leicester City for an undisclosed fee in the summer but has found chances limited following the Reds' brilliant start to the League One season.

After making two starts in cup competitions, Brunt made his league debut as a second half substitute in Saturday's 4-1 home win over Northampton Town and he produced an impressive cameo.

Brunt was in the starting XI for Tuesday's EFL Trophy clash against Wolves under 21s at The Racecourse and he was a rock in the heart of defence as the Reds won 3-0 to reach the knockout stages with a game to spare.

There was also a first goal for Wrexham to celebrate when Brunt opened the scoring and first-team coach Jones praised the centre-back.

"Brunty came in over the summer and had to be patient for his place with the strength in depth we have got in the squad," said Jones.

"He came on at the weekend and did well, and built on it against Wolves.

"He showed confidence and composure in the middle of that back-three, he marshalled it well and organised well.

"We know he's quality on the ball, it was about concentration and having that right mentality to be able to produce a performance and that's what he did."
