NO team in the top four tiers has scored more league goals at home in 2024 than Wrexham and Steve Parkin says he is always confident his side will find the back of the net even when not playing at their best.

Phil Parkinson's Reds have struck 40 times at The Racecourse this year, scoring two more goals at home than Premier League champions Manchester City who are next on the list.

Norwich City and Mansfield Town have netted 37 goals on their own territory with Arsenal and MK Dons boasting 36 home strikes in their respective divisions.

When asked why  back-to-back promotion winners Wrexham - currently second in League One with 20 points from the opening 10 games - have made their north Wales stadium a fortress over the last few seasons, assistant manager Parkin said: "It is a combination of everything.

"We have not lost many games here over the last three or four years while me and Phil have been here so I think they take confidence from that.

"The crowd plays a major part with the way they get behind us and sometimes get onto the opposition which is really important.

"The key thing at home is that there is a real edge to our play and even when we are not at our very best, you always think that at some stage we might get a goal no matter how late it can be.

"The confidence that has inbred over the last three years is really instilled in the players."

Wrexham racked up the goals in their last league game at The Racecourse when they beat Northampton Town 4-1 on Saturday to get back to winning ways after taking one point from two away matches when they failed to score.

Wing-back Ryan Barnett had three assists and he also had a hand in the other goal, earning praise from Parkin who had captain James McClean (2), Jack Marriott and Elliot Lee on target.

"Ryan produced a performance of real quality," said Parkinson's right hand-man.

"It can be frustrating when wide players don't quite get the crosses right but his crossing was spot on."
