WREXHAM got back to winning ways after beating Northampton Town 4-1 to maintain the 100 per cent record at The Racecourse.

Phil Parkinson's side were still among the League One pacesetters after taking one point from back-to-back away game at Leyton Orient and Stevenage but it was a case of home sweet home for the Reds on their return to north Wales.

A fifth league victory in as many outings at The Racecourse keeps Wrexham second in the table with 20 points from 10 matches.

Wrexham played good football in the first-half and McClean opened the scoring early on.

Although Northampton equalised against the run of play, leading scorer Marriott bagged his fifth goal of the season to restore a deserved lead at the break.

Wrexham killed the game off in the second half with Elliot Lee netting and McClean getting his second of the afternoon, with Ryan Barnett having a hat-trick of assists, and he also had a hand in the other!

Parkinson made three changes from the side that started the 1-0 defeat at Stevenage - just Wrexham's second league lost of the season - on Tuesday.

Andy Cannon, Lee and Ollie Palmer came back into the team in place of George Evans, who damaged ankle ligaments at The Lamex Stadium and is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Sebastian Revan and Steven Fletcher.

It meant McClean reverted to the left wing-back role vacated by Revan after lining up in midfield at Stevenage.

Northampton won a corner with less than 30 seconds on the clock but Wrexham were soon on the offensive and the Reds took an eighth minute lead following neat build-up play.

Lee spread the ball out to Barnett whose superb cross from the right was headed home by McClean at the far post.

Another good move ended with McClean heading Eoghan O'Connell's deep cross back across goal from the by-line but the ball was just beyond Marriott.

Wrexham kept the pressure on and Lee fired straight at keeper Lee Burge and there was another chance for the playmaker whose effort from Barnett's cross fell wide.

It was all Wrexham but Northampton equalised out of the blue after 27 minutes.

Tarique Fosu sent in a corner which was flicked on and Cameron McGeehan slotted home.

Wrexham responded with Tom O'Connor's free-kick which landed wide while Palmer also failed to hit the target with another attempt.

Lee played a one-two with Palmer and only just cleared the bar but Wrexham reclaimed the lead on 38 minutes following superb approach play.

Cannon won the ball on the halfway line and played it out to Barnett whose cross was pulled back by McClean for Marriott who fired home from eight yards.

Cannon's low drive went wide in added time but Wrexham were good value for their interval lead.

Wrexham made a slow start to the second half and they were indebted to Arthur Okonkwo for keeping them ahead as he got down low to make a fantastic save to deny Tyler Roberts.

There was a sight of goal for Wrexham when Palmer's first time shot from outside the area was saved by Burge but the Reds made it 3-1 in the 56th minute.

Barnett sent in another teasing cross and Lee headed home to lave the Reds in control.

Okonkwo pulled off another outstanding stop to keep out Roberts' header but Wrexham went 4-1 up in the 67th minute.

Barnett delivered another telling cross and McClean found the back of the net with an outstanding volley.

Wrexham kept probing and Barnett picked out substitute Fletcher who was tackled in the area as he went to shoot and the chance went begging while the striker also headed over.

There was a let off for Wrexham when Sam Hoskins raced clear but he fires over with only Okonkwo to beat but the result was never in doubt.
