IT’S always nice to get into that winning habit and Deeside Dragons are looking to maintain their positive run as they return to Division One North action this weekend.

A busy spell is in the offing for the Welsh Cup winners, who make the trip to Sheffield Scimitars tomorrow.

Then, on Sunday, Deeside Leisure Centre will host the return encounter as the Dragons take on Sheffield once more.

Following a mixed opening to the campaign, two wins on the bounce have improved the mood amongst the Deeside ranks.

However assistant head coach Matt Compton is anticipating a tough double-header. “It gets a little bit harder as we go to Sheffield and then back at home,” he said.

“Looking at results over the weekend, it’s going to be tight from the top to the bottom.”

A familiar face will be coming up against the Dragons during the weekend clashes.

“Sheffield will have a good side,” added Compton. “They will have Matt Croyle playing for them as well.

“We have got to make sure we look after our own end. We have got to make sure that we start on time.”

Starting on the front foot will be important, especially considering the fact the Dragons slipped 4-0 behind early on in last week’s Welsh Cup showdown against Cardiff Fire.

Deeside did respond to triumph 11-9 on the night and 16-14 on aggregate, with Jakub Hajek and Ross Kennedy both scoring four goals.

“We are hoping to build this Welsh Cup and do it every year and build on it,” said Compton.

“They’re a team in a little bit of transition like ourselves. They’re new to Division One and they’re trying to get further up.

“It was good to get that win.”

Tomorrow’s other fixtures: Hull v Billingham; Leeds v Widnes; Nottingham v Blackburn.

Sunday: Billingham v Solihull; Nottingham v Hull; Whitley v Widnes.

Deeside Ducks are in Division Two North action tomorrow at home to Bradford Bulldogs (5pm face off).
