PHIL PARKINSON admits Wrexham haven't performed as well since becoming League One leaders but he insists no-one took their lofty position for granted because it's still early days.

The back-to-back promotions winners hit the ground running and reached the third tier summit following a five-game unbeaten start to the season.

After suffering a first defeat of the season at Birmingham City who triumphed 3-1, Wrexham bounced back by beating Crawley 2-1 despite not being at their best.

The Reds then took one point from two long away games, with last Saturday's goalless draw with Leyton Orient followed by a 1-0 loss at Stevenage in midweek.

Wrexham have played nine matches and are now second in the table, five points behind pacesetters Birmingham, but Parkinson says there is still a long way to go and he is looking to bounce back against Northampton Town at The Racecourse tomorrow.

"If you look in reality, we haven't played as well since we went top," he said.

"I don't think it's that because I stress all the time about not looking at the league table at this stage of the season, there is so much football to play.

"There are lots of other teams who are regrouping behind the top so we can't take our position for granted.

"We have got a lot of work to do but we are looking forward to doing that."

Wrexham will aim to end a mini-goalscoring drought against Northampton.

The Reds found the back of the net regularly at the start of the campaign but have failed to score in the last two games.

"Teams have worked exceptionally hard against us, blocking things, stopping crosses and putting their bodies on the line like Stevenage did," added Parkinson, who saw his side last go two league games without a goal in March when they drew 0-0 with Harrogate before losing 1-0 to Tranmere Rovers.

"You have got to give them credit for that but it is unlike us to go two games without scoring because we have got a good goal-scoring record."
