RICKY EVANS isn’t just taking his Lex XI side to Rhyl for a day-out - he’s going there to win!

Lex are one of three North East Wales League teams plotting a giant-killing and the scalps wouldn’t come much bigger than Lex winning at the former Welsh champions.

“We’re going there and will give it everything we’ve got,” said the much-travelled Evans, who had two seasons as a player at Rhyl and is still lacing up his boots at 48.

“It’s a great ground and our lads will love playing there in front of what will be a good crowd. But we’re not going there just to make up the numbers. We’re going there to win.

“We’re in good form, top of the league and playing well.

“We’ll go to Rhyl and be as professional as we can. We’ve got a bus and we’re going to stop for a pre-match meal.”

Harry Massey is Lex’s top scorer with 11 goals while Jonny Taylor has made the switch from Rhyl to Lex and he’s eligible to face his old club tomorrow.

While Lex hit the road, FC Plas Madoc and Mynydd Isa have Llanrhaeadr and Four Crosses respectively as they aim to book a third round place.

“We go into the game full of confidence after picking up back to back wins and going through September undefeated,” said Isa’s head of senior football James Hollyoak.

“We don’t know too much about Four Crosses but they themselves are also in a good run of form so we are expecting a tough game.

“We have home advantage which is always a positive as this means we will have good support as we have had all season.”

Connah’s Quay Town will also be aiming to make home advantage count against Kinmel Bay, who knocked out Brickfield Rangers in the previous round.

“We need to bounce back from last week,” said Town boss Gavin Parry after a 1-0 home defeat to Llannefydd.

“This is our last chance to have a decent cup run and I’m confident the lads will do that.”

The 2019 Trophy winners Cefn Albion go to Llannefydd tomorrow hoping for a change in fortunes.

“It’s a tough and testing time at the moment and the games are not getting any easier,” said Albion boss Ian Andrews.

“We went to Bow Street with nine first team players missing, however we gave a good account of ourselves, had a goal disallowed to make it 1-1, then a penalty decision went against us.

“The tie at Llannefydd is another big game but yet again we are still struggling with numbers.

“ I have never known a period like it in football with player unavailability, we’ll see what we’ve got and go with a game plan to try and progress to the next round.”

Tyler Wilkinson, Kien Morris, Josh Millington, Torne Samuels, Leighton Kendrick and Ryan Merrill are all out but Conner Kendrick, Keenan Bathers and Josh Valentine return.

Brickfield Rangers host Berriew on the back of a damaging 2-1 Ardal League defeat at home to Llangollen Town.

“It was a tough defeat to take against Llangollen,” said Rangers’ manager Gareth Wilson.

“We completely dominated game with more than the lion share of possession and lots of chances created but unfortunately we never took any of them.

“That’s football and games even themselves out over the season. Credit to Llangollen who had a game plan to stop and nullify our play. We go again in the cup and will look to bounce back.”

Llanuwchllyn head to Tywyn while Holyhead Hotspur, who are one of the favourites to lift the trophy, host Llanrwst United.
