DAN SCARR has experienced the Racecourse roar from the substitutes bench and now the centre-back is looking forward to playing for Wrexham in front of a bumper home crowd in League One for the first time.

With Max Cleworth absent after damaging ankle ligaments in last Saturday's 0-0 draw with Leyton Orient, summer signing Scarr made his first league start on Tuesday when Wrexham suffered a 1-0 defeat to Stevenage at The Lamex Stadium.

Scarr is set to keep his place in the side when Phil Parkinson's men aim to bounce back at home to Northampton Town tomorrow and he can't wait.

"The atmosphere has been great every time I've been on the bench," said Scarr, who was brought in from Plymouth Argyle.

"It would be nice to get a start and play in front of the home fans.

"I am sure we will have a good chance to put it right."

Parkinson's men lost for just the second time in nine league games against Stevenage, although they remain second in the table, and Scarr is looking for an immediate response against the 19th placed Cobblers.

"We probably won some games where we maybe should have come out with a draw," said the defender.

"We have done well this season so we will pick ourselves up and try and put it right on Saturday.

"It is nothing to get dis-heartened about. It is still early in the season, we have only had two losses so we go again."

With Wrexham making a superb start to the season Scarr had to wait patiently for his chance and he made two starts in cup competitions before making his league bow as a late substitute for Cleworth at Orient.

Handed first full league debut against Stevenage, the 29-year-old was pleased with how he settled in but not the outcome.

"It was sad losing Max. Hopefully he is alright and back soon, but that is why we have got a big squad," he said.

"The gaffer said you are going to have to be patient and take your chance when you can.

"I thought I played alright, it was just frustrating as a team. We slipped below our standards first half, that is what probably cost us the game.

"I was pleased to get through it myself and do alright."

Stevenage took a 10th minute lead before dominating the rest of the first half and although Wrexham improved after the break, they struggled to create chances.

"We were slightly disjointed and a couple of yards off the pace once they scored, added Scarr.

"We were a bit deflated and we can't be down for that period of time.

"We need to be at it all the time, otherwise there's some good teams and you do get found out.

"I thought we had a good reaction second half and asked them lots of questions which we didn't do in the first half.

"The lads gave 100 per cent effort and we knocked on the door but just couldn't quite get it over.

"That's football for you but we have got a chance to put it right on Saturday."
